Sizes
Sizes are  12" x 16" for a small head and shoulders, up to 20" x 24" for a larger head and shoulder, 24" by 30" to 36" by 40" for a 3/4 figure and up to 40" by 96" for a full standing figure.  These sizes are approximate.  Sizes and shapes of paintings are adjusted to fit the composition (the pose) of the painting or for where it will hang.

Prices
Paintings range from $1000 to $1500 for head and shoulders, $3000 for a 3/4 figure and $5000 for a full figure (standing or sitting) adult.  Additional sitters in the painting are an additional cost.
There are no travel costs for clients who are within 1 1/2 hours driving distance from the Woodrow Wilson bridge or Prince Frederick Maryland, or who reside in Southern Maryland, or who are willing to be painted at Ms. Stewart's studio in Charles County.  Travel costs are added for commissions outside of this area.

Paintings come with a simple lath frame and are ready to hang.  Ms. Stewart is happy to advise clients on choosing larger or more ornate frames based on the paintings and where they will hang. Accepted portraits become part of Ms. Stewart's portfolio.

Procedures
The artist and client meet first to discuss poses, clothes and background, the size of the painting and the location of where the painting will hang.   Ms. Stewart tries to capture the personality of the sitter, so discussions might include the sitters hobbies and interests.  This also gives Ms. Stewart a chance to watch the client to see what gestures, expressions or postures are natural to the sitter.  A single pose or multiple poses are selected and reference photos are taken.  A final pose is selected and a color study is painted, which can take one to two hours.  The color study might be done on the initial trip or on a subsequent trip. You needn't sit like a statue for the color study.  Usually sitters have a conversation with Ms. Stewart while the color study is worked on.  Or you can listen to music or an audio recording of a book.  There are lots of breaks.  Occasionally a final sitting might be required to make adjustments to the finished painting.   A finished painting can take anywhere from one to six months to complete.

Young children are painted only from photographs taken by the artist.  Because the faces of very young children can change so much in a month, it is recommended that individual portraits of children be painted when they are four or older.  Children have the features they will retain as adults at that age.  If the child is younger, have them in a portrait with an older sibling or adult to better mark that moment in time.
